Volunteers Needed!

For over 18 months now, I have developed a volunteer network (Hearts and Halos) that has been assisting us with the patient requests we receive from the Cleaning for a Reason Foundation. These dedicated folks have helped us since the day we opened our hearts to the foundation. But we are in desperate need of more volunteers! We have seen an influx of requests for our services at JPT, so far this month we have added 9 more patients to our calendar. That brings our total this year to 20 new patients-exceeding the 15 patients we assisted in 2007.

How can you help? Can you spare 2-3 hours a month? Do you have a college student in need of some community service for their degree? Each patient we take on receives one 2-3 hours of cleaning once a month. Right now we are in need of at least 3-4 volunteers to help us over the next several months.

If you or someone you know can lend us a hand--please contact Samantha or Kim at the Akron office--330-245-1580.

Cleaning for a Reason Recognition Program

At the ARCSI/ISSA Convention last week, the Cleaning for a Reason Foundation held its 2nd annual Partner Breakfast on Friday morning. It was FANTASTIC! All partners who attended received a beautifully designed certificate of participation to frame and hang in their offices. I had the honor of presenting those awards to our sister partners. As of Friday we now have 340 Partners in 47 states and 5 in Canada. We were priviledged to have 5 attendees from Australia also attend. I believe that by the end of the year, we could very well reach our 500 goal.

The Cleaning for a Reason Foundation presented the Remembrance Award to locally owned Professional Housecleaning Services owner Shawn Day (Chesterland, Ohio), whose company cleaned 17 cancer patients this last year, giving away over $4000.00 worth of services to those women in need of help. I am so proud that yet another OHIO Partner is honored with such an award! Shawn also received a pink Oreck vacuum donated to the foundation and an Osprey floor cleaner which was also donated. Congratulations Shawn!

Also recognized was Kathy Gage who was instrumental in securing a $10,000.00 donation to the foundation that will help us recruit more maid services to help with the incredible demand we are receiving. See each week, we actually are turning down 50% of the requests we are receiving simply because we don't have enough maid services to help. 50%!

Please, if you have a maid service, ask them if they are cleaning for a reason.

ARCSI Convention

Vicky and I have just returned from the annual ARCSI/ISSA Convention, where we met with fellow maid & commercial cleaning service owners to discuss our industry and the new path that is being laid for the future. The tradeshow itself had over 600 vendors and 20,000 attendees. So many new products and equipment choices are now available that it will change the way we all do business in the cleaning industry.

Did you know that in the next 3 years, the residential cleaning industry is pegged to grow over 500%? By the number of new business owners I met last week, I believe it. This new crop of very young owners will certainly strenghten our industry as I continue to see them wanting to learn how to run their businesses legitimately and professionally as possible. That's a wonderful thing, as often times we do get a bad wrap due to those who pose as "businesses" and aren't. I see it everytime I open the phone book and scan down the list of competitors.
But the homeowner can help with rooting out the bad apples too, by asking the right questions and "interviewing" the right company to do business with. Who do you trust?
