The truth of the matter is...Yes, we all are!
In this 2 part series we will examine the 2 types of enemies that are invading our sleep.
Part I--Bed Bugs!
Yes, Bed Bugs are now invading Ohio! This has been a growing concern for several years now as more people travel and hotel hop across the country than ever before. (Read the Beacon Journal article that appeared in Monday, July 21st edition http://www.ohio.com/lifestyle/25675034.html). Hotels are notorious for being the epicenter for outbreaks, but if you travel your home is susptible to them.
Here is a few things you can do to help prevent taking home these tagalongs:
1. Do not keep your luggage on the floor. Instead put it on a luggage stand.
2. Don't put your suitcase on the bed.
3. Keep the suitcase closed tight at all times.
4. Using the laundry bag? Keep it off the floor and close tightly.
5. Turn off the lights, use a flashlight and check the bedding around the seams, behind the bed (where the mattress meets the wall), between the sheets at the bottom of the bed, and the pillows. Your looking for brown/red bugs or black sticky residue.
When you get home:
1. Keep your suitcase off your bed!
2. Unpack on a non-porous surface like a laundry countertop or laundry sink.
3. Wash clothing articles separately from your "normal" laundry
4. Vacuum the suitcase inside and out, including all the seams and pockets.
Already have a bed bug problem? Have no fear, help is near. You can either call your local pest control (I recommend Innovative Pest Management) or JPT. We are both here to help!
Next week, the next critter. Dust mites.
